HEALTHY CHILDREN PROJECT
PRIVACY POLICY

The Healthy Children Project (HCP) maintains this website in order to provide information and resources to women of child bearing age and their partners, especially adolescents and teens; doctors, nurses and other health professionals and counselors; public health officials; children’s environmental health advocates; and interested consumers in general. The privacy of those who use this website are of the utmost importance to us. The information we collect about you when you become a sign up to receive the HCP E-Newsletter, policy constituent, or to request specific information and feedback, is used to process your order or request for information and to provide you with requested services.

REGISTRATION
When you register to receive the HCP E-Newsletter, we ask you to fill out a form that requests your name, address, telephone number, and email address. Your name and address information is used solely to process your order or request for information. By policy of the Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA), the sponsor of the Healthy Children Project, this information will never be sold, given, rented or traded to others for purposes other than those specified on these web pages.

WEB SITE LOG FILES
When you visit the HCP website we automatically log your IP address, your browser type and your access times. We utilize this information to conduct site performance evaluations, to see where visitors are coming from and to keep track of click stream data (the screens our users visit on our site). This data helps us to determine what content our visitors find most appealing so that we can maximize your usage of the site.

USE OF INTERMEDIARIES
HCP may utilize the services of intermediaries such as United Parcel Service (UPS) FedEx and various mailing houses to process and send requested materials. To our knowledge, these intermediaries do not store, retain or use the information in any way.

COMMUNICATION
From time to time we may send out email messages soliciting your support, prompting a call to action, or alerting you to information of importance to HCP website visitors. In addition, you may receive communications from us if you have contacted us for a particular reason, and to receive the information or service you have requested.

SURVEYS
From time to time, HCP may request your input to evaluate website features, or policy positions via a survey sent you by email. Your participation is completely voluntary.

INFORMATION FROM CHILDREN
HCP has no intention of collecting any personal information from individuals under 18 years of age. If a child provides us with personal information without the consent of a parent or guardian, the parent or guardian should contact us if they would like to have us delete this information from our files.

EMAIL REQUESTS
Individual requests emailed to HCP are kept strictly confidential. Personal data such as address, telephone number, address, age and gender may be collected in order to fulfill a specific request for information. Records regarding the nature of individual inquiries used to create aggregate reports. HCP does not distribute your personal information except in the event a complaint or legal action arises from any messages posted by you.

PUBLIC FORUMS
The HCP website uses forums for posting essays and responses, questions and comments, and operates some listserve type functions. Please remember that any information disclosed in a forum or bulletin board setting becomes public information and you should exercise care in deciding to disclose your personal information in these settings.

COOKIES
Cookies are pieces of information that your browser stores on your computer’s hard drive which identifies you when you enter a website. The cookie doesn’t actually identify the visitor, just the computer that a visitor uses to access our site. Unless you voluntarily identify yourself (through registration, for example), we won’t know who you are, even if we assign a cookie to your computer. The only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply. A cookie can’t read data off your hard drive, and our cookie can’t read the cookie files created by other sites. We use cookies to help us tailor our site to your needs, to deliver a better, more personalized service. We can build a better site if we know which pages our users are visiting and how often.

You can refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. You do not need to have cookies enabled to use the HCP website. However, some features of our site will not work the way they should if you refuse cookies.

SECURITY
When making any financial transactions with us online we will secure your information in transit to us and upon receiving your order to safeguard your personally identifiable information.

The web server system employs software programs to monitor network traffic to block unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, and thwart attempts to identify individual users or their usage habits other than for the purposes identified in this policy. Intentional misuse of secure information may result in federal prosecution.

YOUR CONSENT
By becoming a subscriber, donor or constituent of HCP, and /or by using our website, you consent to the collection and use of the information you provide to us as described above. If we make any material changes in our privacy practices or in how we use your personally identifiable information, we will post a prominent notice in the LDA bi-monthly publication Newsbriefs and on the HCP website prior to implementation of the change.
